Day two
Before I start today’s blog I want to point out that I am having difficulty in writing them in the third person particularly as the opinions and observations are usually mine. So from hereon in all the blogs will be in the first person. Sorry about that but hopefully it will make easier reading.
Day two
After breakfast we met with our courier and took a walk up to Central Park and had tea in the Plaza where we had a brilliant “afternoon”tea with all the trimmings albeit in the morning. The hotel reminded me of the Beverly Hills Wilshire and I kept expecting Miss Vivienne and Barny to walk in ( film buffs will know what I’m talking about) after we left the hotel on our own we took a walk along 5th Avenue in the rain. On one corner was a Donut stand and guess who were standing there, New York’s finest, so I had to have a photo op. We continued our exploration and at Broadway found the Disney shop so in we went and of course we didn’t come out empty handed. As It was still raining we decided to make our way back to the hotel, on the way we came a large number of police officers, never seen so many in one place. In fact I think I saw more officers in this gathering than I’ve seen police in the UK in the whole of the past year. All this because of the Rockefeller tree switch on. Once again I got talking and had another photo op. We returned to the hotel and dried off.
Later that evening we assembled in the lobby and were taken by coach to the David H Kotch theatre, home of the New York ballet and with an auditorium layout similar to the Royal Albert Hall, to see a performance of Nutcracker, our little bit of culture. It was the first any of us had seen a ballet. Obviously we’d heard of the Nutcracker and knew some the score but none of us knew the story or the fact it had a Christmas theme. I have to say on behalf of us four philistines it was absolutely fantastic. After the performance we transferred back to the hotel, purchased a hot chocolate and turned in after another full day.
